Social Lookup by TalentBin is a free extension for TalentBin recruiters who use the Google Chrome Browser.

The extension allows a recruiter to access any of a passive technical candidate's social media profiles by exposing an aggregate view whenever a recruiter visits a social media site of a prospective candidate.

For example, if you are looking at a candidate on LinkedIn, you will instantly be able to see their TalentBin profile, as well as links to any other social profiles they have. You can also click out directly to the candidate's TalentBin profile and send them an email instead of having to stick with InMail.

The following sites and ATS/CRMs are compatible with the plug-in:

  • AngelList
  • Any highlighted name
  • CarbonMade
  • Coroflot
  • Dribbble
  • Facebook
  • GitHub
  • Indeed Resume Search
  • LinkedIn (all version)
  • MeetUp
  • MobyGames
  • Quora
  • StackOverflow
  • Twitter
  • Bullhorn
  • Compas
  • Jobvite Engage
  • Resumator
  • SmartRecruiters

You must be logged into your TalentBin account in order to use the extension. If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to do so on Just enter your TalentBin login credentials and you're good to go!

How to Use
Now that you've downloaded and configured the plug-in, you will see it on the right hand side of your screen when you are looking at a candidate profile on any of the sites listed above. You will be able to see that candidate's TalentBin profile, professional and personal interests and links to all of their other social sites. To minimize the extension, simply click on the green tab.

If you don't see the candidate you are looking for, you can add him or her to your TalentBin using the "Add your own candidate" option at the bottom of the extension. Once they have been added, you can use TalentBin's contact features to help craft your outreach to that candidate.

The newest version of this extension allows you to contact candidates via email, directly from the extension itself. This saves you the time it takes to click through to a profile to access contact information and allows you to simplify your workflow.

Note: in order to use the email contact version of the extension, you must have an email address integrated with TalentBin or be using the Mailbox Lite option. View the Email Integration Guide or contact your TalentBin product specialist if you need assistance with email integration.

If we have contact information available for a candidate, you will see the green “Contact” button as part of their profile within the extension. When you click this button, you will be prompted to select a Folder for that candidate, then the extension will expand to show the composer window. From here, you can choose a template, edit your message's personalization, and add a candidate to an Automated Follow-up Campaign. TalentBin will automatically stage candidates you have contacted, just like when you email them from

Why Can’t I see the Candidate’s Full Email Address?

You will notice that part of the candidate’s email address is replaced by stars. This is to protect candidate contact data from scrapers and other forms of nefarious activities. It also protects your candidates’ email addresses so fewer of your competitors have access to them.

However, the full email address will be visible from within and from your email Sent folder.

How Do I See Candidates I Emailed Using the Extension?

You can view candidates you emailed via the extension the same way you view other candidates you emailed through

The quickest way is to open TalentBin and navigate to your Mailbox at the top of the screen. Any messages that have been replied to will be in the Inbox, listed chronologically. Any emails still awaiting replies will be in the Sent folder.

You can also go to the Manage page of TalentBin to find your contacted candidates. You will need to make sure you are in the correct folder first. Any candidates you have emailed will be marked in the “Attempting to Contact” stage if they have not yet replied, or the “In Discussion” stage if they have replied already. You can sort your view of candidates in each stage using the checkmarks and the Update button on the left of the Manage page.

Additional search features:

If you are on a website not included in the list above, you can manually trigger the plugin to search for a particular name by highlighting the it, then right clicking to bring up the options menu. Among the options you will see is "Lookup on TalentBin". Clicking this will cause the extension to pop open from the side of your browser as usual, with results for this name in TalentBin.

It should be noted that searches run this way will not be tied to any geographic information, so the results will be a search for that name worldwide.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Q: I just logged into TalentBin, why is the extension prompting me to login again?

A: If you are still prompted to sign in by plugin even after logging in to, you may need to adjust your Cookie settings in Chrome. Social Lookup requires access to cookies from when you are looking at other websites. This is known as "third-party cookies".

Look for the line that reads "Block third-party cookies" - if the button to the right is blue, this means third-party cookies are disabled, and you will not be able to use Social Lookup.
To fix this, you may click the button to the right of "Block third-party cookies" to change this setting for all websites.
If you still want to block third-party cookies from other websites, but allow them for, you can add an exception here by clicking the "ADD" button in the "Allow" section below. In the popup, enter "" and click "ADD" again.
